The Course:

  • Painfully flat - I described the course with this phrase when I ran the Kiawah Island Marathon in 2000. Unfortunately, the marathon course is just the half-marathon course repeated. While this makes the marathon course monotonous, I did not find this to be the case with the half-marathon. To the course's credit, I did notice two slight inclines that I had not recalled from my first run four years earlier.
  • Winding - Towards the end the twists and turns on the cement trail really begin to hurt the knees and the hips. The base for running also causes the feet to ache significantly.
  • Weather - It was beautiful and in the 60s all week, and the night before the race a cold front dropped temperatures into the high 30s/low 40s. It was very windy as well - at times, biting. Clear day - no rain.
Unfortunately, Evan was unable to attend the race, and I could not find any supporters who were willing to wake up early enough to take pictures. My roommate, Lysa, was kind enough to photograph me with my medal after I cleaned up a bit. :-)

More to come - I'm on my way out the door for some holiday traveling. :)
